I'm looking to replace the original soft top on my 1981 380SL and have been given a few expensive quotes. How hard is this to do yourself? Any special tools required? Anyone have any guides?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Robin

I replaced the soft top on my '83 500SL on my own, but now a few years back, so the tricks and problems have faded from my retrievable memory banks. There are vague images of many hours, messy glue and window realignment. I tackled the job mostly because I couldn’t find anyone local who seemed to know more than I did about the process. The outcome has been fine, though. The additional seals are also worth replacing, along with the top.
If you have access to a knowledgeable shop, this may not be the place to save money.
