My stock Becker radio was stolen about a week ago, and I've decided to replace it with an MP3/ipod deck until I can find another good Grand Prix. Some of the wires were labeled, presumably by the previous owner, but others were not and since I didn't remove the radio myself, I couldn't take note of which wire went where.
I've searched the archives and googled for help identifying all the wires before posting here and that was a help. I now need to know what the two brown wires that were attached to the Becker chassis by a hex bolt are for. I managed to get the speakers, the accessory positive, hot positive, pwr antenna, and ground wire hooked up but I now keep blowing the instrument lighting fuse when I turn on the headlamps but the radio works fine.
I have NOT been able to locate the grey/violet wire referred to in the posts I've found on this site for handling the illumination control for the radio. My car doesn't seem to have this wire and I'm wondering if the two brown wires that were spliced together and attached to the back of the Becker by that bolt somehow serve to complete that circuit. My suspicion is that since these two wires are the only ones not hooked up to anything now (and further that since all the other wires are known to be hooked up properly) that these two brown wires somehow complete the circuit for the lights. This is a problem in particular because blowing that fuse takes out the rear right tail lamp as well making driving at night risky.
I DO have a wire on my radio specifically for illumination control and it's presently hooked to nothing. Any help identifying my two unknown wires and clearing up my short is most welcome. Thanks in advance,
