I'm thinking about replacing the right header pipe off the exhaust mainifild because it appears to have a crack in it. This is a 1980 SLC. It appears I can buy the piece for about $100 bucks, Ferderal no pre-cat. The California with pre-cat is about $350. How do I know which ones on my car? I'm in NJ so legally I can order the less expensive type(much preferred). Not sure if I have a California or federal car. Please Help

A MB mechanic in my town told me if I dont buy the pipe with the pre-cat, the downstream o2 sensor will burn up. Any comments anyone?
