Hi all,

I've noticed that on hard acceleration (away from a red light, or up a steep hill - I live in San Francisco) sometimes the emergency brake light comes on in my '72 350SL. It lights up for a while; then goes away.

Does anyone know why it does this? Is it an indicator of something falling apart, or is it just merely that the engine has to work so hard some sensor or other assumes the brake is still on?

It wasn't there, say, a year or so ago. It started appearing during the last six months.

The brake on my 79 450SL would come on and off
Brake fluide was low. -My master cylinder was leaking. - replaced master cylinder Jim

Thanks. Checked - the fluid is fine, and the master cylinder was replaced just a few years ago.

It seems like it happens more when the engine oil is running low, but I'm not sure. I'll fill it up a bit and see if it makes a difference.

Did you check the fluid level in both chambers in the master cylinder? The "light comes on during hard acceleration / steep incline" is consistent with low fluid levels.
