Hi. This is Richard from New York City. I recently purchased a 1987 560 sl on ebay. She is a beaut. Had her tuned up by MB Manhattan (they were not cheap bur fantastic to deal with) I have to say, it is one of the most fun cars i have EVER driven. I need some ideas on how to "update" the stereo without changing the original Becker that's in there now00just get a bettter sound out of some new speakers. I also drive a 2004 Land Rover Disco, a 1989 GMC 1500 with 190k mikes on it (work truck), 1985 Jeep Wrangler(beach ride) and my darling 1963 Austin Healy Sprite. But on the list to own are 1965 Asttin Martin, and 1970 Cuda AAR, and any vintage Ferrari, preferably a Dino or a California......

My Name is Andy and I live in Houston Texas. I have a 1985 380 SL and I love it. I am the 2nd owner and my aunt was the orginal. It has 180.000 miles and runs like a top. It is Black with the Tan interior. I need a few minor comsmetic things, but for the most part is like brand new. I love working on cars and have a great time keeping this one up. I wish I drove it more, but time and the price of gas keeps it off the raod.

I have just found this site and am looking forward to learning more about my favorite car ever and places to go with it.

I have a White/Palamino interior/Brown soft top 1988 560SL that I have owned for a little over a year. Not bad shape with 140,000 miles when I acquired it but it was not up to what I wanted. After a year(valve stems, trans, shocks, subframe mounts, new leather, carpet, wheel restoration, tires and alot of work) it looks like it belongs on the showroom floor, pers, and is is all original except for the Becker which I replaced with a new retro fit Becker CD Mercedes unit. A great but expensive toy!

Hello all, new this week to the site. I own a 1983 380sl with 47k mileage. Anthracite grey with beige/saddle leather interior. Normally it runs perfectly and is not driven much except on sunny summer days. I am in the process of changing the water pump this week and could use some advicve on whether I really need to pull off the vibration damper.

In the market for a 450 sl and I have a question. Can a 450 be towed on a two wheel car dolly? If yes, does the driveshaft have to be disconnected? Is this a 4 bolt proceedure? please reply to:

Looking for some assistance locating a part. I have a 1986 SL560 and need a center wheel cap for a 7Jx15H2 ET25 wheel. This is the plastic all silver cap. Two of those clips broke off the cap and I have been having some trouble finding a replacement locally. Thanks.

Hi Dorian and everybody out there.
I just stumbled on the site via Google. I was looking because I have a problem with our 350SL from 1971. It is actually a real early one, June 1971.
We are in Brisbane, Australia and have two other Mercedes; a E-Class Coupe' from 1994 and a 280 C-Class from 1995. The SL is the toy.
I just had the car do a "funny" on me. After returning from a perfectly normal drive i went to restart it half an hour later. It was "hunting" up and down like crazy before dying. On restarting it kicks off, but dies. I can, however, keep it idling smoothly if I press the pedal a bit. Just lile in the old days when the idle screw was set too low. I have no idea where to start looking and hope somebody out there in SL-Land can help me.
Glad I found this site as we are keen Mercedes and SL owners.
Thanks and all the best
Di & Bjorn from Australia

I have owned MB diesels for 35 years, 240D's, one 190D, and a 300TD wagon. About two years ago I purchased a 1981 380SL with a number of problems. I am gradually solving one or two of them at a time. The car is not my daily driver during winter (salt) but is for late spring, summer and fall. I live in Central Michigan and commute to East Lansing. I no longer own diesels; starting them in this colder weather during winter is challenging.

I work for USDA as an Agricultural Systems Scientist, and hold a Ph.D. in Soil Physics.

I am also a marathon runner having completed 144 of them including 11 Boston's.

I am enjoying fixing the 380SL. I have a good mechanic in Lansing, Michigan but anything I fix myself is a fraction of his cost. The car has 116,000 miles on it.

Thank you,

Mike Gangwer
Alma, Michigan

Hi,

I am a 107 newbie.I just purchased a nice '87 560. I own several antique and muscle cars as well as my CL65 daily driver.

It's great having a roadster in Phoenix.

I have been reading the forum for the last three weeks and have already gained valuable information. I will contribute as I get more experience with my car.
